The Girl on the Train

By Paula Hawkins

Four stars

Paula Hawkins, no matter what anyone says, is an amazing writer. The novel is perfectly constructed and has that character development that makes you obsessed with characters. There is something about the desperate depression of the main character, Rachel, that almost everyone can relate too.

Rachel is a nightmare and that friend that you quickly lose touch with because her drinking and depression is unbearable. Paula Hawkins makes you kind of dislike her in the beginning, her self pity in very unattractive. Eventually, your feelings about her do change which really allows for you to form a relationship with the character. By the end, you really understand her.

Other than my weird bond to the character, the mystery and suspense aspect to the novel is really entertaining. I’ve read a number of mystery novels and figured out the ending about halfway in but it’s still not an easy guess.

It’s dark, scary, and oddly easy to relate too. I have not yet seen the movie, but I would suggest reading this prior.
